While Marvin Lewis was certainly correct in his fourth quarter strategy to run the ball and control the clock against the Chiefs, I don't want this to be the strategy against Oakland.

I want Marvin to run up the score Sam Wyche-style!

To do so would complete the cycle which began last year when Mike Brown mugged the Oakland Raiders in broad daylight while they were still mourning Al Davis. I'm Sicilian and this business move made me proud. Now Cincinnati had better draft picks in 2012 along with more in 2013. It's time to complete this "business deal" by stomping the stinkin' Raiders into oblivion. That way, the Bengals will have owned them in the boardroom, in the draft, but most of all on the field of play. This is the time to make a statement to the entire league.

I'd rather be hot the 2nd half but not the point I was making.

Not only running up the score to humiliate them, but Carson is (was) the king of the no-huddle comeback while here was here, so I don't want to see us go up 14 or 21, try and run out the clock, and him lead game-winning drives on us.

In other words, don't fall victim to one of the classic blunders - the most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go against a Sicilian when draft picks are on the line!

Umm, yeah, sometin' like dat, capsice? Da Bengals need a Sicilian coach 'cause nobody knows more about, ah, executin' dan da Sicilians, capisce? We can teach da punter all about da "coffin corner," too, and da pistol offense is nuttin' either. You want da bomb from da quarterback? We got dat covered. Run up da score on da Raidahs and mafiosi will be impressed and give da Bengals da respect.

This.

It may not be flashy, but smart football and player health is much more important than running up scores. NE made that a statement win in the first quarter, nothing to prove after that.

It was a PAT you use your Standard PAT team Gronk was a good blocker which is why hes a normal on the PAT team.

Pulling him out and a few other starters and you get your kicker killed.

Plus one thing the pats dont want is a repeat of their 18-1 season. Where they rested their starters during every blowout and when SB came they couldnt make it the full 60 minutes and lost.

Not to be contrarian, and forgive me for posting on topic, but this is just standard coachspeak to me. Not that it's the wrong thing to say or anything, but there are 0.0 coaches who would say anything else. "Coach Belichick, how do you feel about winning in week 11?" "Well I think the most important thing is to keep celebrating for a few days. I'm not sure we'll need practice the rest of the season because we looked pretty good out there. Frankly I don't know if there's anything left to accomplish this year."

That was an exaggeration of course, but I think this is just the equivalent of "we did some good things out there. we'll check the tape and try to improve and keep working.", except it's after a win.

Exactly. Injuries happen. Playing scared gets you nowhere. If it's the 4th quarter, and you're up by 28+, fine, put you're backups in and run a prevent defense with a heavy dosage of running on offense. Playing conservative only up 15 points gets you a loss more times than not.

He's barely below average, by record, but I have to assume that many other teams coaches didn't have to deal w/ anything similar to the Bengals front office, general management, coaching staff, and scouts.

I consider a good job coaching leading your team to more wins than losses. Crazy perhaps, but thats my philosophy.
By your philosophy if we win one more game then we have a winning record at 6-5 and he will qualify as a good head coach under your philosophy so why are you so butthurt?

Well to be fair take away the 21 points from 2 pick sixes and the punt return and it was a much closer game.

The problem with continuing to go full throttle as others pointed out you risk injury. Second you risk putting the game back into the other teams hands by creating opportunities for turnovers.

Now as being aggressive goes, a 21 point lead early is not time to take your foot of the throttle and you have to still go for the throat. Just do so in a way that also manages the clock.

Not butthurt, but realistic. 5-5 is hardly praiseworthy especially when the last win was against the 1-9 Chiefs who had no decent QB or #1 WR in the game after the second quarter. A team who only had a leading score just once out of 40 quarters played. The Chiefs are this years 2011 Peyton Manning-less Colts.

Marvin Lewis has a decade of coaching to show just how good of a coach he is. He generally beats the beatable teams and loses to the winners, Giants excluded so far this year. If one more win is had, Marvin is heading in the right direction and I applaud him for turning things north.. Good for him and this team. That does not make him a good coach however.

If 5-5 is praiseworthy for you, congrats. I think it could be better. If the definition of a good coach is finishing 8-8 or less most years and folding in first round in the playoffs 3 /3 times.....wow!

No wonder Marvin has tenure here. Management must agree as well.
