Time to see how some of the big name RB prospects performed on the big stage:
Stats: Gio Bernard- Unfortunately, team was banned from post-season Johnathan Franklin- Rushing- 34 yards/2.4 YPC/0 TD Receiving- 1 catch/4 yards/0 TD Eddie Lacy- Rushing-140/ 7.0/ 1 Receiving- 2/17/1 Andre Ellington- Rushing 50/4.5/0 Receiving-1/35/0 Joseph Randle- Rushing- 66/3.9 /0 Receiving- 0/0/0 Mike Gillislee- Rushing- 48/5.3/0 Receiving- 1/13/0 Kenjon Barner- Rushing- 143/4.8/0 Receiving- 1/24/1 Montee Ball-Rushing- 100/4.2/1 Receiving- 1/7/0 Stepfan Taylor Rushing- 88/4.4/1 Receiving- 3/17/0 Winners: Eddie Lacy- Dominate game against a D that had performed well all year; however, one must remember the Ray Graham went for over 170 against the same D. Kenjon Barner- Typical game for KJB; unfortunately, lost a ball in the white dome or he might have had 2 long TD receptions Stepfan Taylor/Montee Ball- Both solid in head to head matchup |

IDK, injuries are a concern and if we spend a 1st rounder on him; he wont be returning kicks

Is he the best shot at giving us a top tier RB in this draft though? I've heard different things. Maybe he falls to the top of the second, you like him there?

IMO Knile Davis gives us the best shot at a top tier RB. But if we could take Gio in the 2nd then heck ya.

Look up Kniles Davis's injury history. He makes Chris Perry seem like the Man of Steel.
I would consider a top tier RB would have a 1st round draft grade. There isn't one of those in this draft class. Lacy or Bernard's stock may be inflated this year because of the lack of first round talent. Lacy's stock has already risen due to the National Championship game alone. He had a great game while ND tackled the poorest they did all year. I like Lacy, but I've seen him go down too easily too often. And for a 220 lbs RB he relies on his spin move more than running with power behind his pads. Go watch and let me know if you see the same things I do.

If the team were to like their chances of Gio in the second, would we be able to Manti at 21 possibly, do we want him?

it is hard to fit in mid tier players into the roster.I am with you on Lacy. He is and was probably the best 3 down back in the draft. But he may be the 2nd best back on his team. It just boils down to a solid middle of the pack draft class at the position with no superstars. Somebody will fall to our 2a draft slot. I think I would rather catch a faller than reach for Lacy.

I think you need to wait to see his measurables. My guess is that he might be slow for his size, he is going to need very good short area quickness in order to overcome that. Or you might be picking up a more expensive version of Bernard Scott.

I have a feeling this dude is going to kill the combine. Injury history withstanding, he will make a jump up the draft boards.

My only problem is that he's a fumble machine. I watch highlights from his game against Rutgers and he fumbled the ball 3 or 4 times.

1) Eddie Lacy in the BCS game made me a believer....especially if the Bengals draft one of his O-linemen (Barrett Jones).
2) Montee Ball. I like how he runs north and south, and doesn't go down easy. Would be happy to see him on the team. 3) Kenjon Barner. Speed! This team needs speed at the RB position, and this guy has it. Rated in the 4th or 5th round? I don't get the love for Gio Bernard...I see a good back, not a great one. |
