The Bengals have the most cap space of all teams in the NFL according to the NFL network. $53M.

There's no cap room, yet we have tons of cap room. The team has the room for MJ, Dunlap, Dalton, AJ Green, Atkins and more. Remember, the cap increases some each year. By the time green and Dalton's contracts expire the cap will likely be 10M higher than now.

When the team starts blow smoke up the fan's arse, just take that as a sign that they plan on a low ball offer but one high enough that they can say" we tried". The word" tried" is synonymous with" failed" in the real world.

Idk about ten million, in fact, that's not likely. I'm pretty sure it's only gone up from 120 to 121.5 mil since the new CBA in 2011. So you're talking an average of 3/4 of a mil per year the last two years and we're free to negotiate with Dalton and AJ as of next year and their contracts will expire in after the 2014 season.

Maybe not so much with Dalton but with AJ, if they don't extend him after next season Goodell will probably kick the franchise out of the league on general principal since I'm pretty sure that under the new CBA AJ is making just a bit more than the league minimum even going into his third season having firmly established himself as a bona fide superstar at this level.....No matter what it's doubtful the cap will be more than a few million more than it is now based on recent trend.

Have you considered that MJ more than likely is not interested in playing LB? Cleveland is going back to the 3-4 scheme so MJ would most likely be lining up as an OLB.

Sometimes there are things to consider outside of money before working yourself into a panic state. It is obvious that he is going to get paid well and he should. The Bengals will have a long term deal worked out with him and will not need the tag.

What is funny is those saying he is not worth the money yet if he were a FA for another team then those same people would be ranting about how the Bengals should step up and make him a big offer.

Given the dearth of pass-rushing ends in the draft, resigning Johnson seems a bigger priority than Andre who can be replaced by several guys with #21 in the 1st. I don;t want that to happen, but its an easier fix.

The bottom line if the Bengals FO needs to get it in gear and rectify the situation with the 55 mil sitting in the war chest.
Why do people try to present the MJ situation as the same as Geathers? Why sign any FAs then after Bryant and Coles? Burfict did so well that maybe we should not draft and just sign UDFAs.

Stop making sense, don't you know if something happens once, it must happen over and over again?

Here's a question: if Geathers is such a lousy DE, why have they kept him around? They've had ample opportunities to cut their losses but they haven't, why is that?

It's easy to spend someone else's money I suppose, but I bet the Bengals could keep Johnson by offering more guaranteed money even if the average annual salary doesn't equal that offered by other teams.

Am I missing something. I didn't really get either of those things. No deal yet and Marvin hasn't decided.

browns Re: Pete Prisco: Michael Johnson #1 free agent on market

We should be able to get Andre Smith signed however if Cleveland wants to get into a bidding war and Michael Johnson is unloyal enough (can't blame him, but it ****** me off just the same) to go along with it than franchise his ***, keep him stuck on this team another year, hope maybe you can reel him in next offseason or during the franchised season (doubt it) then lose him next year, when we may be in better position to replace him. As it is right now we need a S, RB, LB, then WR/OL/etc with our four round picks. I'm sure we probably end up filling not all of those spots will see.

I could see him being a 3-4 end maybe if he bulked up because the guy has a lot of size. Or are they wanting him at OLB? If they want him there it wouldn't surprise me for him to be a bust FA signing for them. Heck he doesn't exactly fit their mold yet because A he needs more size and B I don't think he makes a good OLB.

MJ will NOT go to Cleveland. No way he does that. I'll put a months worth of checks on it
