greene will be long gone by then. I can see him sneaking into the 1st rd with a good combine.

Greene has speed and athletic ability for sure and our current LB's are severly lacking in that area.

Maybe he could be the one that finally covers a TE around here.

that's a good possibility. I mean if all else fails the kid could drop 15 lbs and play SS

We have a guy that has all the things you mentioned. Heck way more speed for that matter and has shown he can cover TEs and support the run. All they have to do is switch him to WLB.

For such and athletic freak Mays spends a lot of time on the um.....

Could be our coaching staff not giving him a chance IDK, but we watched 2TE's run all over the field on us and he didn't get much playing time.

Obviously they don't feel he can or they would have done it by now. Mays will be gone too.

I dunno where your getting your 40 times but greene is much faster than 4.75. I've seen 4.59 and 4.62. He plays coverage pretty damn well.

Gooden relies on his speed to be in position to make plays, too often taking false steps or attempting to run around blocks

I would love to expirement taylor mays at OLB. He can cover the TE has the size to bulk up a lil if needed. can obviously fly sideline to sideline, and can most cetainly can tackle, with a punch. He doesnt do anything on this team anyway, i say keep the freak and expirement before we let him go and he trys it somewhere else. With OLB a need...why not try it.

Regardless if we get Ogletree, Greene, or others I really want us to pick up Kenny Tate from Maryland in the 6th or as an UDFA.

Quote:
Kenny Tate, SS/OLB, Maryland

Height: 6’4″
Weight: 220
Grade: 6.9 ISP (Grading Scale)

Scouting Report

Athleticism
+Elite size and bulk for the safety position
+Remains fluid and flexible despite his height
+Fantastic leaping ability, explosive athlete
-Good speed for an outside linebacker, but only average for a safety
-Might be too small to be effective as an outside linebacker in the NFL

Intelligence
+Shows off a good grasp of scheme and coverage design
+Seemingly immune to play action
-Will jump some routes on instinct and get caught out of position at times

Leadership
+Team Captain
+Was willing to accept position change from starting safety to “Star” (SS/LB hybrid)

Man Coverage
+Has shown ability to stick with most college TE’s and RB’s
-Will struggle if asked to cover NFL receivers
-Looks a bit stiff in the hips when asked to play man
-Needs to work on his press technique when at the line

Zone Coverage
+Shows plus instincts in zone coverage
+Attacks the ball and is able to disrupt a lot of catches
+Able to read the quarterback and drive on the ball
+Will jump some routes and has good enough ball skills to make the pick
-Might not have the speed to cover half the field in the NFL

Run Defense
+Excellent tackler, both in space and near the line
+Consistently wraps up and rarely looks out of control
+Tears through blockers, attacks the ball-carrier
+Doesn’t shy away from blockers, very physical
+Active in pursuit, takes good angles and doesn’t quit on plays

Overview

Kenny Tate is a productive and versatile (FS, SS, OLB, Pass Rusher, Special Teams) defender that will need to show in 2012 that he has fully recovered from his somewhat mysterious injury that sidelined him for most of the 2011 season. Tate’s football IQ, instincts and tenacity should help him overcome his high 4.5 speed in the NFL. He rarely takes false steps and seems to break very early on the ball.

Agree. We've got to be able utilize his intensity outside of ST alone, OLB makes a lot of sense. Unless he just can't tackle without launching himself at people. Even then, I'd like him to come in every now and again just to destroy an opposing TE/RB.

I would rather have none of them, and get Greene or Brown instead
