The Ravens generally draft very well and obtain great role players. They will be ok.

It'll balance out.
To be fair they had that discount because he was inconsistent and had never won anything of significance.

Now he had a good three game run in the playoffs...highlighted by the "Flacco Fluke" in Denver...and resulting in a Super Bowl win. Is that worth risking your next few fears on by paying him as the top QB in the NFL all of the sudden? Based on his regular season up and down stats?

To answer your question: Trent Dilfer

I'll take that guy over Dalton.
Dalton at < 1 million vs. Flacco at 20+?

I'll take Dalton.

Playoff appearances in the past 4 years:

Bengals- 3
Steelers- 2

As for the games, I can't really argue much, other than to say the games are almost always close.

That said, the 2009 sweep that we celebrated so much was sandwiched by a pair of 5 game losing streaks.

I have a feeling things are going to even out here soon though.

Ravens won this superbowl under Flacco's rookie salary.....I'd call that a bargain.

It was...but we're talking about the future.

Moving forward, I think Andy will be a better value and will produce similar numbers at less than half the price (even when Dalton gets a new deal, I don't see more than 8m/per)

Fluke-o had the postseason of his life at the perfect time. Hope you enjoyed the superbowl, cuz your team will be paying for it now. Literally.

We will see.
The way all contracts are being over inflated. Dalton's contract will be much higher than 8M/per....especially with the contracts of other lower tiered guys getting these crazy contracts i.e Fitzpatrick, Kolb.

I bet the Ravens will be back in SB contention before the Bengals.

Eh, once every 12 years or so is a good pace I guess...

I dont think there is any other QB - Rodgers, Brees, Brady included - who wins a game @ Denver when your special teams gives up 2 return TDs, and your defense gives up 3 TDs to Peyton Manning.

Put Rice in the Patriot's backfield and they will put up 65 points.

I seriously doubt it.
Ray Rice hasn't been special in the playoffs.
The Patriots get about the same production out of their backfield.

Ridley. Avg 4.4 carry. 1,263 yards. 12 TDs

Rice. Avg 4.4 carry. 1,143 yards. 9 TDs

Receiving:

Woodhead rec 40. 446 yards. Avg. 11.2. TDs 3

Rice. rec 61. 478 yards. Avg. 7.8. TDs 1

But yeah Patriots would have put up 65............on the Steelers.

I read on here all the time about how Flacco is average and not that good. He won the SB mvp in the biggest game of the year and did what it took to get his team there. I'd say he IS a pretty good QB. I'll grant you this, I have never seen a QB get away with just heaving the ball down field and have his receivers come up with the ball more than Flacco. Call it luck or having great receivers who go up and get the ball.( AJ Green has this talent. NO Steeler receiver has this talent). Whatever the case, the QB is the one player who makes it happen, good or bad. Whether its throwing for 400 yards or not throwing int's. When you win a SB MVP, you are at the top of you're profession great defense or not. Give the guy some credit
please.

He's been average (or up and down) during the regular season...he had his three best games in the playoffs and good for him! But except for the "Flacco Fluke" the Ravens have a quiet retirement dinner for Ray rather than a parade and a statue.

Total kudos to him for the wins and the MVP selection...but who else would they give it too? I thought Jones maybe but Flacco has the name recognition over him.

You're probably too young to remember the 70's. All Bradshaw had to do was throw the ball in the vicinity of Lynn Swann.

Roethlisberger has been in the league four more years.

Flacco has 19 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in the playoffs. Roethlisberger has 20 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Flacco has 7 games with a quarterback rating of 95 or higher. Roethlisberger has 5.
Flacco has only one less playoff win.

In Roethlisberger's Superbowl wins he had quarterback ratings of 22.6 and 93.2. Flacco, with a quarterback rating of 124.2, had a higher quarterback rating than Roethlisberger had in both his Superbowl wins combined.

In the playoffs the last three years, Flacco has a TD/INT ratio of 18-2, and that is with two game-winning touchdown passes dropped. For comparison, in Roethlisberger's three Super Bowl season his TD/INT ratio is a combined 14-8.

Roethlisberger had defenses ranked 4, 1, and 2 respectively in 2005, 2008, and 2010. Flacco just won the Super Bowl with a defense ranked #17.

Ben is the 3rd best QB in the AFCN.

None of which takes away from his up and down regular seasons, his failure to get over the hump in previous years with a better defense OR the point that even in this playoff run he was lucky on several occasions...the most obvious being in Denver.

I was making no comparison to other QB's...just himself.

Yeah because ben wasnt lucky to make that shoestring tackle against the colts, or get awarded a TD he clearly didnt score on, or have harrison return an INT 100 yds as the clock ran out in the half when the other team was going in for a TD.

Those were at least plays that got made. Ben made the tackle. The TD was certainly iffy. Harrison made the INT and the run back.

Flacco threw it as far as he could and two defenders completely misplayed it! LOL! I guess you could say Flacco made that because he could have under-thrown it (more).

Luck has a part in any title run...do you pay the QB more than any other QB the next year because of it?

No, as a matter of fact I was at few of those games in the 70's. How old is dat? . Swan was 6 foot. Most of his great catches were diving catches. I'm talking about when the receiver goes up and takes the ball AWAY from the defender. Every Game Flacco would seem to have a couple of these plays happen. See the difference?

Tackle LOL

All I remember is Ben flopping around on the turf like a fish out of water and the player tripped.
