Because the opportunity to add Pro Bowl caliber talent should never be easily dismissed. He's one season removed from back-to-back Pro Bowls following an 18 sack season. Sure, his numbers are down this year ... have you seen any Eagles games this year? Their coverage is terrible. I mean, on Monday night versus the Panthers they blitzed a CB off the slot and nobody moved over to pick up the receiver - Cam Newton just flipped an easy pass down the field for a 40-yard TD to a guy who was uncovered. Pretty hard to get to the QB when your secondary literally doesn't cover receivers. And, as mentioned numerous times in the thread now, Babin's modest early career stats are easily explained as he was miscast as a LB for years before finally finding his way at DE.

Doesn't has to be a D-lineman. We could, for example, release Jason Allen to free up the roster spot. Allen has been injured and done nothing for us this year, so hard to argue that we'd miss him. In fact, that's probably a good way to think of it: would you rather have Jason Allen or Jason Babin on our roster the rest of the season as we try to make our playoff push?

I listened to his interview of Sirius NFL radio after he was released. To say the least i was really impressed by how he handled being let go. He was a true professional and sounds like a good locker room guy. I wouldn't mind having him in black and orange at all.

This Dline is now playing the way we expected them to play. Gaethers and Gilberry aren't going to make All Pro anytime soon but they're filling the roles the coaches have for them and the're being productive. With five games left, i'm not for bringing in someone and trying to fit him in, disrupting the rotation that has been working for a few weeks now.

Doesn't have to end the thread. I thought it was just interesting to debate the possibility ... I've followed our team long enough to know we were never actually going to pursue him. If we only discussed stuff that actually happened there'd be waaay fewer threads on the board! :)
