I hope the odds are fairly good, unless either demand a king's ransom for their services. I support overpaying a bit, as that is what the Bengals would have to do to replace them.

I'm for resign both. Look how much time take for them to develop. If we let them go,we will be developing guys for opposing teams. Lets use the draft to attack other areas of concern, like LB. RB, S, WR

If every player wants to win the SB, I guess that means Andre Smith will sign with Pittsburgh. Their O-line is always a mess and their track record is much better than the Bengals; it's a perfect match.

I wish I lived in your world where squeaking into the playoffs and losing in the first round were considered 'special.'

To tag, Andre is 9 million, Micheal.. 11 million. They might tag Andre and try to sign Michael long term.

I dont see us resigning Michael Johnson unless he settles for the "hometown" discount.

We must resign Andre worse case he will get the Franchise tag.

Both haven't proved to be consist but we have more history in bringing back ol, so smith has better chance. Johnson hasn't been all over the qb like he was at the beginning of last season so he might come back but would be a short contract. I like Johnson but I'm sure there will be better de in fa then him this year.

We're projected to have over $45 million in cap space at the end of the year, and we currently have $30 million in space. If they're not re-signed it'll be a pretty big blunder by the FO.

Worse case though I hope we tag Andre.

Who would you bring in over MJ?

If we loose MJ , I say you draft a DE with the first round or early second round pick. Get somebody like a Dion Jordan, Sam Montgomery, or Bjoern Werner could help fill that void.

I would rather us keep Johnson, there is just a few good de with contracts up. But that's if we can't resign him, I think Johnson has a lot of upside and him and Harvey are good combo. How ever if we don't resign him I like Kruger as a de and I don't see him staying in Baltimore.

That's the thing. I think he will improve with time too.

Let's face it, we won't bring in a $7-8 million a year free agent with Atkins and Dunlaps contracts up soon.

It's either keep MJ or replace him with a rookie which I'm not a fan of.

The Bengals should focus on resigning Andre Smith and make MJ an average player money offer. They will still be overpaying MJ a bit, but when he's playing well, he is average. Then they can hope he plays well, and they will have paid him just right. In my opinion, AS should be given a long term deal, and whatever happens with MJ happens. He is very replaceable.

We lose MJ under that type of offer. He's a young DE that is going to have 10+ sacks this year. Those type of DE's get paid ALOT in free agency.

It's hard to say if some team will offer Andre Smith a lot of money. Tackle used to be really important. Now the emphasis seems to be shifting to Guard.

To anyone suggesting the team replace MJ in the draft, care to work the numbers on first round DE's being successful versus being busts? The bust percentage is very high, so the Bengals are much better off overpaying a bit for MJ, plus it keeps DE from becoming another position of need. They don't need another hole to fill.

Bengals should keep their own, overpaying a bit to do so, and fill needs ar S, RB, and LB.

I'm not suggesting replacing him in the draft because the Bengals may be able to get a decent DE in free agency. What I am suggesting is that if he is demanding good DE type money, then why not use that money for a good DE? Ultimately I believe Zimmer and Marvin will have the say in what happens with MJ, and I am comfortable with that. I just see a huge love affair going on here with MJ and I'm not really sure why. It reminds me of the Brian Leonard love affair on these boards. Just because a guy makes a play or two doesn't mean he is a top tier player.

The OP is about MJ and Andre, and to me, Andre is a much bigger focus than MJ.
