No way I'd applaud. If I were the AD I'd be finding a new Strength coach. I have no problem calling a kid out if he's not doing the right thing; I do, however, have a problem with the way he handled it. Montgomery could end up losing millions of dollars. Yes, he should be held accountable. Yes, he should be resposible enough to get to the weight room. And yes, things have to be pretty bad for such a drastic step. That said, it still rubs me the wrong way; you don't play games with guys careers.

Montgomery is ultra talented and I'd have no problem with taking him; things get a little more real when teams can hit you with huge fines.

Not when you still take millions.

This paper was actually put up some point during (Or jst before) the season, but according to someone I trust pretty well, it didn't motivate Montgomery at all

There are two sides to most stories.

As for telling the coach you're going to miss a workout, that is a legit point. But again, some of these coaches are so testerone laden and bull-headed that the fact that they don't check their own e-mail or their own voicemail wouldn't keep them from making a sign like this.

Be serious for a moment here, the man who is the S&C coach most likely loves what he does, and he most likely makes comfortable 6 figures for doing it. He will likely still be well off (financially) long after most of those that he has coached have earned and squandered their big contract money.

On another note, you really don't have any real insight as to the tone of their program, maybe coach Miles endorses that sort of thing. They do have a history of winning, and winners are usually held accountable.

Why look for a new strength coach? That program seems to have some history with both winning, and putting out decent NFL talent.

Do you mean he does not care about being called out or that he is self motivated enough that he doesn't need the sign or other gimmicks to do what is required of him?

Late 1st Rounders don't make millions and millions with the new pay scale. I definitely think fines in the 10-30k range would keep a guy in line and make sure he was at all mandatories. That said, it doesn't inspire confidence as to whether or not he would be at voluntary workouts.

Re-sign MJ and work out an extension with Dunlap and we don't even have to consider a DE in 1.

Maybe firing is a little overboard; but again, if I'm AD, that sort of thing never happens again.
