Yea, you might be right. It will definitely come down to how he handles his interviews with teams regardless of what the final story will be with the fake gf business.

Worst case scenario, he invented a girlfriend that didn't exist to get publicity from it. Which is screwy but idk, I just can't call it. I'd wanna talk to him about it and then decide. I'm sure that's what teams plan on doing.

Folks are silly. Dude is the top ranked MLB in the nation, we have no idea what happened, and he had a poor game in which everybody else on his team did.

Folks are actually saying "wouldn't touch him"?

Dude coulda been the mastermind behind the whole plot; it won't matter if he looks good at the combine.

There may be a "shock jock" or 2 out there that thinks this will impact his status, but the overwhelming opinion is it will not. It's football.

Yea, I said kinda the same thing but still. Depending on how he handles his interviews there certainly may be teams that may stay away and it's not like you could really blame them all things considered. You have to admit, this is certainly a "red flag" and those red flags even on the most talented guys cause some teams to leave dudes off their board entirely. That's why I'm saying it comes down to his interview with me if I'm a GM.

So because he's Samoan, he's a Rey clone? Okay,

He he makes it to the 2nd (which he won't) and they pass, I'll be ******.

I wouldn't touch him as a 4-3 MLB. I see a lot of Rey in him. I think he will be a great 3-4 ILB or 4-3 OLB. I just don't think he has the range and speed to cover the middle.

I don't see any similarity between him and Maualuga. Not sure where people get that crap from.

My issue with him is he doesn't seem to be a very powerful, explosive athlete. He's more of a run and chase LB who has good instincts and is good in coverage. Pretty much the exact opposite of Maualuga.

I'm not seeing the Rey comparisons. Rey is obviously a bit stiff, Manti seems much faster, more fluid and athletic to me.

Really was a hoax apparently. He knew the dude who did it, he wasn't sure himself she was fake until a couple days ago when the guy who pulled the prank admitted to it. Te'o made up the meeting at a Stanford game cuz he was embarrassed that it was an internet relationship....Pretty much wraps it up. So much for all that UDFA nonsense.

See posts #66 and #68 in this thread ... if any member of the media ever gets around to asking the obvious questions then it will very quickly be apparent that this version is nonsense.

I understand and completely respect where people are coming from when they advise to give people the benefit of the doubt and not rush to judgment. But, sometimes the obvious explanation really is true. Pete Rose eventually had to admit that he bet on baseball, Lance Armstrong eventually had to fess up to doping ... and sooner or later Te'o is going to have to admit he was a part of perpetrating this hoax. From his point of view, sooner would be better than later.

OK, so you say you were duped into thinking you had a relationship with this woman, a woman you've said you actually spoke to on the phone for hours and hours. So, when you found out that she was in hospital dying of cancer (as the story went) why did you not ever try to visit her there?
Because, since it was a hoax, the person doing the hoax would have given him some excuse for why he couldn't come to see her.

I have several questions that lead me to believe he was likely in on it:

1. How do you know/date someone that long without seeing them, or at least getting suspicious?

The interwebz dude, let's not act like it don't happen, especially around dis joint, LOL.

2. Why did Te'o insinuate that he'd seen or been with this woman?

Apparently becuz he was embarrassed about having an "internet" GF and even lied to his own family about having actually met her in person.

3. Why did a former ND player say Te'o knew about it?

Link please, I've heard that too, but only second hand. Is there really a ND player on record as saying Te'o "knew about it"?

4. Why did he reference Kekua in 2 seperate interviews days after he supposedly found out about the ruse?

According to Jeremy Schapp, Te'o wasn't sure it was a hoax until after the person who perpetrated the hoax admitted just a couple days ago. Until then he still didn't know whether to believe if she was really on the run from drug dealers or not.

5. Why is he not talking now? If he were totally innocent, he should just come forward and tell his story. The longer he waits, the more it looks like his handlers are busy crafting a story.

He just sat down with Jeremy Schapp for two and a half hours, so there goes that.

6. He loves this woman so much that he's MIA for her "funeral"?

Same as above, the person/people pulling the hoax aren't going to invite him to a funeral that doesn't exist anymore than they are going to tell him that she's in this or that hospital......They gave some line about why he couldn't come and he bought it.

7. He was friends with the guy that perpetrated the whole thing?

Yea, and that person has been identified and confessed.

8. He now claims he never met Kekua, but why were there so many stories about how they met after a ND game? Sports Illustrated ran a huge story about how Te'o and Kekua met and fell in love, yet Te'o didn't know about these stories? The stories had to come from Te'o's mouth, right? And if they didn't, you'd think he would've heard about it and gotten suspicious.

Already explained this one above.

It looks to me like you're dead wrong dude.

Why else would ND have issued the statement they made on it after getting an in depth report on the whole situation from a private investigation firm that they hired.

Notre Dame is not above distancing themselves from this kid if he had anything to do with it, don't kid yourself. They'd have washed their hands of him quicker than a rabbit makes babies if they thought there was any chance at all he was in on it.

Quick lesson to help folks be less ignorant. Rey is Samoan, Manti is Hawaiian. They are both not "Samoan"; however they are both "Polynesian".

You're welcome.

Thank you, and I wasn't even one of the one's saying that.

He appears way more naturally athletic than Maul to me. Rey has always looked a bit stiff, he's got some thump to him but he's like a fast ball hitter. Throw him some off speed stuff and he looks silly in a hurry.

Now I'm gonna waffle a bit I guess.

According to Jeremy Schapp, Te'o wasn't "sure it was a hoax" until a couple days ago.

Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick said in his presser that they informed Te'o and his family of their findings on the 5th of January.

In that same presser, Swarbrick referenced "catfishing" so obviously they told Manti something along the lines of "look kid, you been had, this girl has been taking you for the proverbial ride".......

Then in the interview with Schapp Te'o said he "wasn't sure" it was a hoax until the person who did it confessed just two days ago.

So apparently, he was still clinging to the idea that maybe she really was "hiding from drug dealers" even after Swarbrick sat him down and told him what was going on.

This kid might be dumber than Andy Katzenmoyer.

Welp, and there goes that too. Even after meeting with Swarbrick and up until just a couple days ago, the people that pulled the hoax were still trying to convince Te'o that she was on the run from drug dealers. He wasn't fully convinced that she wasn't real until the person that trolled him admitted to it.

Meh. Those answers provide reasonable doubt, but I still find his story extremely hard to believe. Also, I like how he supposedly found out on December 6th, but once people found inconsistencies with that, he came out saying he didn't truly decide she was fake until December 26th. Or maybe just a couple days ago (when the deadspin article hit).

In all honesty, I'm hoping he changes my mind, because I was hoping we would draft him before all this came out. Right now I'm just not buying it. Everything coming from his camp just sounds like damage control. As for the interview, it wasn't face to face, and there were no tough questions.

ESPN just said that Te'o stated that the people that pulled the hoax admitted it to him a week ago. So there goes that too. By the time this is over, we'll need a power point presentation to explain the whole thing.

Oh, I thought they said it was two days ago. At any rate you're right, ish is so weird but rt now, I'm 99.9 percent sure that Teo just got trolled like no other and it's actually kinda funny but really messed up at the same time.

No actually, he got the call from the hoaxter on the 6th of December, he didn't even tell ND until the 26th. Then ND sat him down on the 5th of Jan. and said "yo, you got catfished dude", but the hoaxter was still in his ear telling him she was on the run from drug dealer until a couple days ago.

The meeting was face to face, it just wasn't on camera. And from what I'm hearing, Schapp asked him everything there was to ask and came out of it convinced the kid is just dumb....Not that Schapp said that he was dumb, but ya know.

Luckily, you don't gotta be a rocket scientist to be a bad arse MLB.

.....but why be so loyal to a girl (for 3 years) that he's never met? Even the dumbest jock is going to find some hunnie to hook up with on campus....but he's a decent looking guy and a star football player.....things just don't add up. This is all damage control right now as he is losing millions in endorsements.

These are the questions ya'll need to consider.

Who needs a fake girlfriend?

Why would somebody have a fake girlfriend?

OK, my final post and then I'm done with this ridiculous story...

...PFT has posted some details of the ESPN interview with Te'o here http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ad-girlfriend/

...and, again, this is the part that just doesn't add up to me:

Fourth, the ESPN.com article says that Te’o didn’t go see her in the hospital when she was recovering from a car accident or battling leukemia because “it never crossed my mind” to do so.

Again, as I said before, that just doesn't make any sense. It never crosses the mind of a young man in love to visit his sick/dying girlfriend!? C'mon. Any way you slice it, that paints Te'o as a very strange human being IMO.

Well, he is a full time student athlete, he probably doesn't have the money to just fly out to Cali whenever he feels like it but idk, that does seem kinda weird.
