There was time that people said, "Sign Jim Plunkett? He's a bum." That, of course, was before Oakland signed him and he won the SB.

Not comparing the two players. Plunkett's name was never mud the Russell's is. History does show that sometimes, humble pie will change a man.

If he's just coming back cuz he's broke, that would be a pretty potent motivator to stick around and he could only stick around by playing at a certain level.

If he's still a bum, so be it. But if you end up with a better backup...

There is no reason that anyone should be answering this question seriously.

Did nobody see this guy play in Oakland? Cause if you did, there's no way anybody would ever suggest this guy on our team.

He wants to get paid. He wouldn't be the cheapest backup. And you can slag Gradkowski, but Russell was damn atrocious...

If Russell had a good attitude, and was clearly determined to go the whole way to make himself work out as a NFL QB, id say yes. But I dont see that he does. He was garbage before, he's only saying he wants to comeback due to money issues (its quite clearly money imo)... talent deficiency, plus poor attitude = a guy we dont want near the team.

If we sign Russell im straight-up wondering when this team turned crazy again.

Plunkett always had heart.

I don't think we even got to the max of 90 last year. That wouldn't be an issue. There are guys worse than him who get a chance all the time.

Jamarcus Russel would have problems making a starting QB position in the CFL much less the NFL. I can honestly say I would take captian checkdown over him. Plus be have Zac Robinson as well, I'm sure the team didn't take him for fun. He may be being groomed to be the back up QB in years to come.

Y'all are being too mean to the OP. I'm sure Jamarcus would make a decent RIght Guard or Nose Tackle.

We can debate over weather Dalton is the guy to get us to the big game, but if you are serious about replacing a guy who has lead this team to the playoffs each of his first two years with the biggest bust in the history of the NFL, your judgement is a bit suspect.

A bit suspect?

If I were a doctor, I'd suggest he get his head examined. That's seriously one of the most idiotic things I've ever read, and I used to post on 4chan.

Only reason I would want to sign him is if we used him for situations where we need a yard or two to convert and I would use him a fullback not QB. He is a pretty big guy

I like the attempt at a comeback, but I don't think he fits well with the Bengals. Maybe some team will give him a shot at 3rd string. Or maybe he just needs to move on with his life -- he's got a ton money, maybe he could be a positions coach or something at the collegiate level (though...he doesn't seem to be particularly, uh, bright).

Free agent QB JaMarcus Russell recently registered a 5.2 forty-yard dash and 29-inch vertical as he attempts his NFL comeback.
Russell is training at the TEST Football Academy in San Diego. "I think he's got some hills to climb," acknowledged TEST CEO Brian Martin. Russell's goals are a 4.8 forty time and 33-inch vertical. "I'm heavier than normal," conceded Russell, who weighed 310 when he began his comeback. Russell's weight goal is 265. He's planning a Pro Day-type workout at some point this offseason. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4154/player

Free agent JaMarcus Russell will hold a "pro day" on or around April 10.
Russell has been training at TEST Football Academy in San Diego with Jeff Garcia in hopes of making a comeback. He recently weighed under 300 pounds -- an accomplishment for Russell -- but still has "hills to climb." Russell will be throwing to Larry Fitzgerald and ex-Bucs WR Michael Clayton at the workout. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4154/player

any body with potential should be looked at, I doubt that money is the issue with him, it's saving face. I would have to take a look.

We'll wait until you stop laughing ...

The former Oakland Raiders quarterback, who hasn't taken a single NFL snap since 2009, told Yahoo! Sports he's dropped from 320 pounds to 308 pounds and is ready to bury past criticisms.

"The last few years, the things going through my life, football is my job and it is how it feeds my family," he said. "People would say (that) I didn't love the game but that ****** me off. People don't know the real you but I want people to know the real me and see what I can do. People are always saying that I'm a bust. I want show them I'm not. I'm committed to this now."

According to the report, Russell will work out with a bevy of former NFL players, including NFL Network's Marshall Faulk, ex-quarterback Jeff Garcia and former Olympic track star Ato Boldon.

Russell's three seasons in Oakland were so disastrous he's been called the greatest bust of all time and the Raiders refused to give his No. 2 to Terrelle Pryor in 2011 when the rookie quarterback requested the number. Before being cut in 2010, Russell was replaced by Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye, then the Raiders traded for Jason Campbell to take his place.
NFL Honors

Vote for the top 10 plays of the 2012 season. More ...

The 27-year-old hasn't sniffed the NFL since getting tryouts with the Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins in 2010, after he was arrested for possessing codeine syrup without a prescription. But he says he's ready to change the perception.

"I'm not looking for a pat on the shoulder from people who haven't been there for me," Russell said. "It feels funny not to go through a training camp, that's just what I'm used to. It's going to feel good to go back out there again. I will make this happen."

His biggest challenge will be to convince a team to give him a chance.

Yep this post was worth a banning.

Only reason J Russell wants back in the league is the exact same reason Vince young wants back in they are completely broke.
