And if he wasn't a 270+ lb defensive end.

So I look for us to try and use free agency for a LB or Safety and them address our other needs in the draft.
If Landry is asking for 6 mil a year what will the Top SS ask for?

I don't see how this would save a high draft choice. Isn't Allen on a 2 year deal? Isn't he getting up there in age?

Either way, I don't see how moving him to safety prevents us from drafting one.

I'm very hopeful that happens.

I see us addressing S in the draft and it is a good year to do it.

Yep. I think we draft one regardless.

Allen still owes us his salary from last year.

We have played around with the Safety position for years relying on castoffs, retirees, and late round draft picks trying to solve the position. Meanwhile, we get hurt by the lack of a true quality Safety that can cover, run and tackle. It's time to use a 1s or 2nd rd pick and bring in a guy that can be here and hold down the position for the next 6-8 years.

No to Allen playing safety, there are many safeties to be had as late as the 4th round that would be a better solution. I am disappointed in his contributions so far, as I had really high hopes for him here.

My gut tells me the Bengals will draft Cooper Taylor out of Richmond. He's a big safety with the size that Zimmer has fallen in love with since drafting Roy Williams with the Cowboys. 6'5" and 235, solid pass defender. Not saying I support the call, just playing a little Nostradomus...

Chances are any safety we draft outside of Round 1 isn't starting next year.

Look over our history. Usually our 1st Round pick is the only one to start year 1.

Even Atkins didn't start as a rookie.

I hear every year how all these guys we drafted will be so great...and then there is minimal impact. Look at the current draft. Zeitler made a big impact and the others were role players.

Then at Safety I heard how Sands was going to start and that late round safety this year. We don't even activate them!

We've had quite a few 2nd rounders that have started their rookie years:

Andy Dalton
Rey Maualuga
Andrew Whitworth
Odel Thurman
Madieu Williams
Eric Steinbach
Chad Johnson

7 guys out of 12 picks. Not horrible.

More to the point, who even drafts a Safety in Round 1? I mean yeah, Eric Berry is good, but that's the exception not the rule. I'd rather take care of other needs early (MLB, Offensive Line, WR).
