With talk (and hope) that Burfict moves to MIKE next year, I, like many of you have been looking for free agent OLB's that not only improve our team, but also makes sense as someone the front office could pursue. Of course, this is all provided that Thomas Howard does not return next year. With that said, I would like to submit Phillip Wheeler from the Oakland Raiders. Wheeler led the team with 150 tackles, 3 sacks, broke up six passes, forced two fumbles and recovered a fumble. With our defensive coaching staff, I can see major potiential for even better production with Wheeler here at the Bengals. Just a thought.

I think Wheeler can become a fantastic linebacker if he's not already considered as such. Probably the most improved player on the Raiders this past year, and he'd probably thrive here. I can't see the Raiders letting him go, but if they do, I'm all for it.

I'd be very happy with Wheeler.
I bet he gets the tag from the Raiders, from what I have read they love him. |

I don't know why he would keep us from bringing Howard back. He is the free agent LB i want. He could play SAM and Howard WILL with Burfict in the middle. He played SAM last year.
Oakland has salary cap issues already, I doubt they want to or can afford to franchise tag him. He is a prime candidate for us to snatch away. |

How bad must it be to sukk AND have cap issues? That sounds like a hopeless situation.

Exactly. This is one of the main reasons I suggested him. He's a very good talent without being a name. We need an OLB, and have the money to get him without breaking the bank. It helps that Oakland's cap issues are horrendous, too. I don't see how they could keep Wheeler without further injuring themselves.

Oakland will find a way to keep him.
Remember how far over the cap the Steelers were last year? They were still able to keep the guys they wanted. They could unload a lot of dead weight from their roster this year. Seymour has an option for like 15 mil that will probably get declined. DHB has a big cap number that will get him cut or restructure etc etc. |

That being said, getting Wheeler would be a great move if we could do it. |

I would love to have Wheeler but I think the Raiders will do everything they can to keep him including cutting high paid, less productive salaries like Tommy Kelley etc. |

Probably means we won't sign him. Although he's on my short list of off-season free agents I would like to see signed. I'm hoping that Hue can help the FO make a decision to bring him here.

And that too. And a high second to boot. When it rains, it pours.
