Anyone thinking this team is going to go crazy on FAs outside of our own is probably in for a seriously long offseason. They will make a strong push to retain our key FAs and I would guess maybe look at 3 to 4 guys outside but those are not going to be what some consider high profile. I could see a Justin Durant or Brian Hartline. It probably will not be Mike Wallace or Reggie Bush and it shouldn't be.
While I agree with you that people are going to be seriously disappointed in the Bengals' off-season, at least as far as signing FA from other teams, why shouldn't they go after Reggie Bush or any other 'big name' FA if they can help out?

Because we've had plenty of success doing it the frugal way....

I am not a fan of FA running backs. The shelf life of a RB is short as it is. I would prefer this be something we address in the draft.

As far as big name FAs go I just do not see, outside of QBs, absolute proof of it taking a team to the next level. You probably see more examples of it really not making a major difference at all. I like to see them use it to enhance the team but I think your big splashes should come in the draft.

I would like to see a guy like Justin Durant brought in and given a chance at SLB and a guy like Hartline brought in to give a vet presence and solid production at the second WR spot. Hartline is the type of guy that could help develop Jones and Sanu and teach them how to beproductive pros.

Awesome job
You are welcome. Thank goodness you are able to do the same without even offering any substance which I did do.

Now run along.

So playoffs 3 out of 4 years with a very young group and a second year OC shows zero success? Uhm....okay. The teams sitting at home for the playoffs may not agree.

That's fine with me. I love Hartline but I'm good on Reggie Bush, he does nothing for me. I'm hoping we can score a good RB in the draft.

...and for a bold move; bring in Dustin Keller, a very capable, reliable TE, and trade Gresham for a 3rd round pick. Or we could keep both for a year and cut Quinn.
Why would you need to cut a FA? Which Quinn is.

We absolutely agree here! I guess I just do not see the fascination many have with Reggie Bush.

It depends on how you gauge success.
Me personally, I don't think simply making the playoffs means much in the grand scheme of things. The main goal of every season should be SB. Now obviously that's not possible to achieve every year, but no, I wouldn't consider this team successful. They're well on their way though, and a couple solid FA signings at key positions of need may push them into that successful category.

Oh, and thanks for nitpicking my other post about cutting Quinn, who's so insignificant that I forgot he wasn't under contract past this season.

I think he's a bit better than Ellis, I don't want a little better, I want a caddilac at RB, give us a trio like the 90's Cowboys. Dalton, Green and some RB to be named later. I just hope we can identify and land in the draft a player that will give us that.

I agree and this is generally what they do. It does not take signings of huge names with huge paydays that probably are not goinv to give huge results which was my point in the post where you stated he was not wrong yet then you basically agree with my point?

You could have been considered nitpicky there .....don't you think?

Anyone thinkin we are gonna sign big name free agents is frikkin not dealin in reality. If they can get all our important guys back and have another damn good draft, next year is lookin good...even tho black jesus is still the coach.
plus any big name free agents they sign will come with long-term deals and then in future years will have to fit in Green and Dalton

I guess this is the challenges that come with three good drafts in a row --lots of players needing to get paid
