The real villain in the Stanley Wilson relapse was Eddie Brown.

They shared a room at the Super Bowl. Eddie was from Miami and knew where to buy the good stuff, so he bought some for a private post-game party.

Whether he told Wilson or Stanley stumbled upon it we don't know, but Wilson would have been unlikely to have obtained cocaine on his own in Miami.

I heard this story told by Bob Trumpy several years after the event.

Jerome Simpson: Amazing talent on the field and stuck on stupid in his personal affairs.

Yep. Eddie Brown played a HUGE part in Stanley Wilson's OD that night. So sad.

To many players in the past to name just one, so I'll just stick with a current player: Jermaine Gresham. With the skill set this guy he should be a dominant offensive weapon. He's been just a tad bit above average, which is a major disappointment.

Lewis Billups is just a sad life story, not so much a frustrating player. He did a lot of good things for the Bengals.
Chris Perry because he was great @ Michigan, and just couldn't put together a long solid career. I really thought he could've been special.
Shayne Graham, beacause as it was mentioned, he didn't miss very much, but when he did it was the absolute worse time.
Also frustrated with SOME fans who ragged on Justin Smith so much because he didn't get 20 sacks a year or live up to his perceived potential related to where the team drafted him. Except for his rookie holdout, he was a very solid player who wasn't an attention hore and wasn't a lockerroom distraction.

Frustrating and Daniel Coats, Brad St. Louis don''t really go together.

When I think of a frustrating bengal I think of a bengal that is talented, but lacks consistency or can't get out of his own way.

Coats and St. Louis were just not talented.

I think the most frustrating Bengals in recent memory (think Palmer and beyond era) have got to be Jermaine Gresham, Jerome Simpson, Chris Henry and Chris Perry.

Gresham is obvious because he's such a gifted athlete but drops so many balls and commits so many penalties.

Simpson was frustrating because he obviously had the talent, but never quite put it all together. Then got some legal troubles as well.

Chris Henry is obvious. If he could stay healthy, out of trouble and think before acting, he'd be putting up Randy Moss numbers right now.

And Chris Perry was always injured, always fragile and couldn't hold onto the ball but so shifty and electric. In 2005, he was used mostly as an outlet receiver and helped us to what should have been a super bowl season if not for that MFer Kimo.

This deflated the team right before the SB. We started that game with our head down.

What was frustrating with Coats is that you knew he was bad but he kept seeing the field.

Jermaine Gresham as far as a current player goes.
He should have had 1,000 yard season so far.
He has 1,800 for his whole career.
He has been anything but a dominant game changing TE.
He's flashed at best.

Past player. hmmm.
Carson Palmer.

alot of people are naming Chris Henry. If he doesn't break his arm vs the Ravens,he would probally
be alive today. He was starting to mature and turn the corner as a adult at the end of his life.

I agree that he was turning his life around, but I still think that overall he was disappointing as a player.

He had flashes, but he could've made a serious impact. In his defense though, I'm pretty sure I read that they studied his brain and he showed signs of brain damage.

I have been really hard on Gresham myself but come on man. You're 1-upping even me.

1,000 seasons for TEs is very rare.

Jeremy Shockey never had on, neither did Todd Heap. Heath Miller, Vernon Davis, Owen Daniels..... nope nope and nope.

Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten are the only currently active TEs I can think of to eclipse 1k.

I can't believe I haven't seen Odell Thurman's name on here. To have such a promising rookie season and never be on the field again.

Akili. Mike Brown's trade-spurning silver bullet was a huge, huge frustration. I remember cringing with that throat-slashing nonsense against Cleveland. And, the home opener and stadium opener the next season (also against Cleveland) was abysmal and just left me feeling we'd been duped. 17 starts, 5 TD passes, and the guy never seemed to grasp the playbook or take much of it seriously. Four years of wasted money, time, and space.

Easy odell thurman dude had HOF talent but blew it away on drugs. Still convinced we would have won the superbowl in 2006 if he played that season.

Of recent years I have to roll with Rey M. And Gresham. But Rey takes the cake with his inability to do any thing right as a NFL caliber middle linebacker.

Totally agree, in reality the Super Bowl may have slipped away with his actions; though there's no way to say for sure. One guy can make a huge difference in a situation like that.

Another really frustrating one, though not in the "choke the guy out" kind of frustration was Ki-Jana Carter, I really thought this was the player to put us over the top. One of the most beastly college RB's ever; injury stepped in and made everyone think about what might have been. After he went down with the ACL, things were just never the same again.
