Default Race for the #2 seed

I don't want to concede anything to the Broncos or Cheifs, but with their schedules I have a tough time believing one of them will not have the #1 seed.

Here is how the schedules play out for the Colts, Pats, and Bengals:

Colts- Rams @Texans @Cards Titans @Bengals Texans @KC Jags

Pats- BYE @Panthers Broncos @Texans Browns @Fins @Balt Bills

Bengals- @Balt Browns BYE @SD Colts @pitt Vikings Balt

An interesting point is the Colts have a tough Thursday Night game in week 11 on the road in Houston. They also have a road game at KC. No one really knows what Titans team will show up or the Texans the second time they play, but you have to think at home they will win those games. If they were to lose @ Texans and @KC, that would make their records 11-4 without including the Bengals game.

The Pats could very well lose @ Carolina on MNF, as well as to the Broncos at home the next week. Their games against the Texans (In Houston) and the Browns will not be easy, either. If they lose just two of them, their record would finish at 12-4.

The Bengal's toughest games are clearly @SD and the following week against the Colts. Say they lose the SD game, but win the rest of their games, that would put them at 11-4 without including the Colts game.

Honestly, I see this as a two team race. Yes, The Pats offense destroyed pittsburgh, but I see their schedule as the toughest and they lose a tiebreaker to the Bengals if both finish with the same record.

I feel it is all going to come down to the home game against the Colts. If the Bengals are able to win that game, while taking care of business elsewhere, they will win the tiebreaker with the Colts as well and likely earn the #2 seed.

I understand that they have critical games to play before that time, but I really like their chances to take the #2 seed if they can get to the bye at 8-3.

Who-Dey.

They're in the same division so they play each other twice a year.

If Cincy finishes 12-4, WITH a victory over Indy.
I think they get the 2 seed, with head to head tiebreakers.

Long way to go though.

6 - 1 to finish the season.

And a victory over Indy.

That is a long way to go.

If we finish a perfect 7-0 (unlikely) AND San Diego comes on strong (except against us) we *might* have a shot at the #1 seed. If Denver and KC split their games and then drop 2 to San Diego each (that latter part is very unlikely) then we should have tie breakers with each of them and will match KC's 3 losses.

OTOH, KC might just win out while we limp into the playoffs at 10-6. Nothing is written yet, but the injuries don't bode well for us.

It's hard to really predict how we finish until we see what the loss of Atkins does to the defense.

Zimmer made his money by only blitzing 4 and dropping 7 into coverage. He could double guys in that scenario. Now we will have to blitz.

Agreed. Although it might work to our advantage seeing that our opponents might not know what to expect. Who knows, maybe Thompson finds a way to get pressure one on one. I'm not saying he's going to have the same impact as Geno. But maybe Zim still finds a without blitzing as much.

I dont see us getting the #2 seed anymore. Looks like Patriots have shored up the DT spot and with Gronk back I see them getting the #2 seed. I think the "realistic" race is going to be for the #3 seed vs the Colts.

The #3 seed gets to play #6 team (or 2nd wildcard). Probably NYJ/MIA/TEN or SD

The #4 seed will have to play either DENVER or KANSAS CITY

I really would prefer the #3 seed.

My bad. I guess I wanted to forget that win for them so badly that I actually forgot it.

I would love to face the Chiefs in the playoffs...I think we can beat them esp if were home.

Im pretty confident the Broncos will take the division and probably #1. They are too good of a team not to have a home playoff game.

Honestly, 3rd Seed probably puts us in the best spot to win a playoff game. Better than the 1st or 2nd seed actually.

If there is any aspect that is going to help us over the last 8 games, it's the #Bengals have the 4th easiest schedule (0.404 winning pct)

Be careful with that 8 weeks of clinching may give you hemorrhoids.

Yeah, unless they run the table or pull off a 6-1 record, even with the tie-breaker against NE, we're destined for the #3 or #4 seed. I'd take a guarenteed #4 at this point. It would be a treat just to have a home playoff game for a change. The last two weren't much fun.

Stupid thread stupid thread. We lost to the browns and may possibly lose to them again if we don't get our act together. There is no way on earth we get a #2 without Atkins. We have 7 games left. I really doubt Dalton and company win 7 straight. I'd say 4 or 5 more wins this season @ 10-6 or 11-5 with a #5 or #4.

Especially the Ravens games. They're a season remioved from being SB champs, and they're used to leading the division or nipping at Pittswburgh's heals. Now, they're down and they're getting kicked. There's a lot of pride on that team. They're going to leave it all out there. I don't believe we win both with them. I see a split of the two games, with us winning the rematch post-Christmas. And still winning the division.

Just a quick note about Atkins..... he wasn't on the field for every snap. He was in a rotation. That is what made the line so effective, yes Atkins is without a doubt our best defensive player and I would be willing to say our best player on the team. However he wasn't an every down lineman and our effectiveness stemmed from our rotation.

I see Hall's injury as more significant, but we did well last year when he went down, so there will be a drop off but not as significant as some seem to think.

The 2nd seed is more realistic then "some" might agree. We went 7-1 last year after going 3-5 in the beginning.

Losing Geno was huge, however he was not our whole defense. Im more worried about the rotation (bodies available) than the sacks or pressure we will lack without him. And I know people will wanna bring up Hall..... But we have been able to play GOOD defense without him.

Instead of talking about what we lost, lets talk about what we HAVE. Michael Johnson, Burfict, Nelson, illoka, Newman, CARLOS..... I mean honestly.... we have an OUTSTANDING defense.... losing Geno is sad and unfortunate but not the end of the world.....

Oh...... and lets not talk about Daltons 4 straight games with 300 yards..... or Marvin Jones taking solidifying the #2 WR spot.... Or Gio becoming a REAL play maker for us. Something we havent had in years...... Win we slaughter 5he Ravens ill sit back and watch everyone make my point for me

The Bengals will have absolutely no less than the 4 seed. Getting in as a wildcard team would take a big tank by the Bengals and a surge by either the Browns or Ravens.

As for the 2 seed....the Colts and Patriots have looked just as beatable as the Bengals have. Seeing as how the Bengals are only one game back, I see no reason why it isn't possible. All 3 teams have pretty favorable schedules from here on out....

As a Bengals fan, it's nice to even be talking about the bye as a possibility, especially after losing Geno.

However, I know better than to look at all the scenarios and think that far ahead because we can only control what we do.

But I'll play.......... why not?

I think Gronk coming back makes it unlikely that the Pats lose too many more, if any, but they're a weird team this year, so who knows, especially with a brutal schedule to end the year.

Steelers and Ravens are falling apart, I don't think the Browns can beat us in The Jungle, and we should win at least two of three against the Chargers, Colts, and Vikings.

I'd like the bye so we can get a week off and get a bye because, regardless of what happens, we'll play a good team in the playoffs at some point, but, if we don't get it, we'll probably play the Chiefs, Broncos, or Pats, so the bye will help us a lot.
