Default St Louis Rams Discussion

Miami selected Jake Long OT

(See Let's start right now... and the Miami Draft Poll for details of this mock draft)

This discussion is about the Rams and their needs. Please put forward the players whom the Rams might draft then we will limit them to 5 and take a poll for three days. The discussion thread is open until Saturday at 8:00 pm

My initial thoughts on whom to put in the poll are (in no particular order):

Ellis DT
Dorsey DT
Clady OT
C. Long DE
Ryan QB
Gholston DE
Brohm QB
McFadden RB (unlikely IMO)
Jackson WR

The biggest weaknesses I see for the Rams are the QB position -- Bulger is 31, Ferotte is 37. Offensive Line -- Allowed 48 sacks. Defensive Line 31 sacks.

Let the discussion begin...

I say Chris Long.

They drafted Carrikar last season with their 1st pick so I don't think they'll go DT again. C. Long or Gholston might go here...

I agree 100% with the posters before me. If Chris Long is available at the second pick it shouldn't even be a question.

I think QB is a relatively strong possibility here picking ahead of Atlanta, KC, & Baltimore. This QB class is not particularly strong.

Plus, I believe Ellis or Dorsey is just as strong of a candidate as C. Long is here.

McFadden they just don't need, but they could trade spots for someone who really wants him and take Clady later...

Just thoughts.

My Boards for St. Louis

1.) Chris Long DE/Virginia
2.) Glenn Dorsey DT/LSU
3.) Jake Long OT/Michigan
4.) Vernon Gholston DE/Ohio State

I can't see St. Louis taking a QB here. Not with the #2 overall. They may go QB in 2, but they go DL or possibly Jake Long here.

Chris Long has to be the top choice on their draft board and they should feel lucky if Miami doesn't take him. They're incredibly thin and talentless at DE.

I think they take Jake Long if he's there, but I would not be surprised at all if Ryan or Brohm is picked here. I say Dorsey, Gholston, or C. Long gets the nod here. Those are the top three with Ryan/Brohm in the wings.

They really need OL help bad though... 48 sacks allowed is near the top of AWFUL.

Strangely their WR's are getting a little old. Holt and Bruce have been around a while... That's why I included D. Jackson on the initial list (although very unlikely)

Chris Long
put Ryan on the poll
put Clady on the poll
put Gholston on the poll
put Ellis on the poll

they have to go C. Long here, any O-lineman is a reach at this point.

No Dorsey? Has he fallen that much? Clady is of course OT and is commonly in the top `15 so it's not an incredible reach, but... a reach none-the-less. I could see Gholston here easily or Chris Long. The OL is deep supposedly in this draft so they just might go with C. Long or Gholston here.

I was thinking they might try to trade down to like the 6-10 pick to get Clady?

They just drafted Carriker so it may be unlikely for them to grab another this year. But I suppose QB is even less likely so swap Ryan for Dorsey I guess.

I'd put Jake Long OT number 1 for the Rams. They need OL help badly.

I like those 4 for the poll and add Matt Ryan for Jake (as we assume Miami already took him). Then the fifth one is tough for the poll. Jackson? (can't see him going that high). Brohm? (As some do not think Ryan should be ahead of him). Ellis? (I could see that one). Clady perhaps.

We already have the Longs backwards, but Chris Long to the Rams makes up the difference.

After Gholston's combine, I could definitely see him going with this pick. He'll definitely be the one getting my vote here.

Jake is the OT
Chris is the DE

I still think Gholston and Dorsey are just as viable as Chris Long for the Rams. If they trade down, they are more or less targeting Clady I'd guess.

I meant in Draft Order. I think Chris Long will go to the Dolphins with pick 1 and Jake Long will go to the Rams. The Rams desperately need a tackle to assure that this season isn't ruined quickly as well when/if Orlando Pace gets injured.

The Rams just waived Bruce and Ferotte. Does that change things?

I think it certainly adds QB as a very likely pick here. I don't see the Rams going into the season without a backup or drafting a QB so Bulger can be the ultimate starter then backup.

I'm leaning toward the poll being:

Clady OT
Long DE
Dorsey DT
Ryan QB
Gholston DE

Anyone want to argue one of those being replaced?
