Default Why should I raise my kid a Bengals Fan??

( I was at the world series against the A's, 6th grade, And I do rememer Joe Montana winning a certain game 20 -16 but for now I want to discuss the all of the other years)

We are all here because we love our team. Personally, I love Cincinnati. I'm a huge Reds and Bengals fan. I have sat and watched my two teams lose time and time again and I just have a feeling that I am going to have to do it again this year. Don't get me wrong, I will be at all the games, I will spend my money on new jerseys, and shirts, and parking, and beer. I just feel like I'm just moving in an annual circle that will again not lead to any payoff. But how many years in a row can a fan truly take this torture??? Lets look at the Reds. We are so excited about what Bruce did last night. Everyone is talking about it. But we are still at the bottom of the division!!!! last freaking place!!!! How about the Bengals??? It is great watching the boards, trying to figure out who will be our third WR, Expecting the world for Rivers to be a stud. But can we honestly make the playoffs??? Are we just going to be watching the Browns and Steerlers fight for first in the AFC NORTH???

I will never root for another team, ever.. period............ but I do have an interesting question..... If you could start all over, from day 1 when your dad bought you that first jersey or football, do you wish it was for a team ( or town) that was an annual winner? Or would you rather be a Bengal Fan like me and hope and pray to god that we make the playoffs time and time again????

The reason why I am asking the question, is that I'm about to be that dad, and I just don't know if I have the heart to introduce my kid to what we have gone through for the last 20 years. But I know I will.

Thanks

Tradition my friend, I am raising my son to be a Bengals fan, if he chooses not to be later in life then thats fine, but its also a big way of bonding with your son, Mine is only 2 right now but he has 2 Bengals Jerseys and loves to wear them all the time because "Daddy wears his all the time too" and as soon as he sees the Bengals on TV he screams Go Bengals Go Yaaaayyyy - I taught him that! and he gets really excited to watch the game and play with a football with Daddy. Its an awesome way to spend time and build a great relationship with your son

Putting my 2 favorite things together in my life at one time, My son and the Bengals
How could it be any better???

To save him/her from maybe becoming a Steelers fan because you'd probably have to put it up for adoption if that were to happen.

i personally couldnt imagine raising my kid, whenever i have one, as anything other than a bengals fan. sure, there have been years of disappointment, but will there be a bigger party in the world than in cincy when we finally win a superbowl?

bengals Re: Why should I raise my kid a Bengals Fan??

All I can say is root for who u like, My dad was a GB fan but that was before the bengals started and he still likes GB but he still likes the bengals. If you want to root for someone that wins every year then pick a team and stick with it thru thick and thin.
I'm always going to root for the Bengals no matter what, I could be like alot of bandwagon fans around here (south central ky) who ever wins the last SB or has the longest win streak etc. , When your kid grows up let them chose who they wanna root for but tell them to stick with them no matter what! But I think the Bengals are going to make some serious noise this year so maybe we'll all be rooting for a winner this year!!!! Who Dey

First off - Congrats on becoming a dad!

Being a fan I'm sure has brought you some very special times and stories (as there is no question it has for me) My bond started with having that favorite team. Your son will appreciate and cherish your stories, knowledge, and most importantly passion for the Bengals. These future memories will be very special. I will welcome the newest fan to our fraternity.

I grew up in Cincy and while my dad never took me to a Bengals game (my first game was when I was 19) and I never owned a football jersey or other apparel (I bought my first Bengals ball cap when I was 32 and in Colorado), I've always stood by my home town team (even after moving to Colorado 15 years ago) and even with the ribbing from my friends and co-workers, I still stick by them.

I now have 2 boys and while I tell them that their dad is a die-hard Bengals fan, I allow them to choose who they wish to root for and while neither one will root for the Bronco's, they do stick by their dad and root for the Bengals (unless New England is on... it seems my oldest likes Tom Brady).

Man I hope this thread doesn't turn into a Tom Brady forum............

Personally, I hate anything from Michigan...... I don't even like to crap in Michigan because I feel bad for my poop.

My bad, Back to the subject at hand

There isnt many things that compare in this world to seeing my son light up with excitement and happiness (the same way I do) when the Bengals are on
Its a great feeling

Why should you, because eventually we will get to the Superbowl. You've got to gamble that if not our generation the next generation will witness it.

We all like our teams generally based on where we grew up. And it just so happens that a great deal of us grew up when the Bengals (and Reds) were actuallly successful! None of us knew the stretch from 1991-2005 would occur to the Bengals, and the regression that took place from there til now and possibly beyond as well...

But we fight thru because the greatest day in the history of sports for any sports fan is when our team beats the odds, the nay-sayers, the "experts" and the NFC team to win it all in the Super Bowl. We're all holding out hope for that day to eventually come.

Problem is, we have to put up with certain people running the teams that we root for. (And no, that's not a jab at Mike Brown Denny2G Super Moderator) I've just never imagined that the ineptitude in molding a team of good players with chemistry and/or lack of ego's and bad character could be this long in the making... that's all I will say. If you want to say that every squirrel finds a nut once in a while... you have to think that some squirrels died between 91-05. But what are we gonna do? Trade in our allegiance? Sticking with your team thru misery makes when the promise land get reached all the sweeter.

Because it will teach your child that what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger!! LOL!!

Seriously, I think its natural to root for the home-town team. At least for me, its where heart always has been and always will be. Both of my boys are Bengal fans and they could just as easily be Steeler fans since my hubby is from the dark side. But Cincy is their hometown...so its natural for them. And, well, ok....I'D DIE BEFORE I'D SEE MY BOYS ROOT FOR THE STEELERS!!!

Kids will follow who ever they see their parents root for,up until a certian age.I have a 13 yr old and he like likes the Bengals(mostly Chad,he wants to be a wr).My 11 yr old likes the Panthers(he just likes them because of the animal).I think you should let him watch and see what he does.beings you live in ohio then youll probally get a lot of Bengals games so you shouldnt have to worry about what team your son will like.Your boy will make the right decision when it comes to his favorite team. And the Bengals time is coming so its the right time to become a Bengals fan.
