What makes anyone think that spending another high pick on a running back is going to instantly yield production in the running game. We have 2 1st round picks on the roster already and they have proven that without blocking, you can't run.
Building a decent O-Line and having a competent fullback are the only player upgrades that are going to really see us improve in the running game.

I really hope we don't draft one.

Walter Payton wouldn't average 3 yards behind our current line. Go O-line early, and often.

Anyway, Wells is a game changer and he would be our feature back for the next 5-8 seasons. I would prefer Smith in 1; but I posted earlier that Oher's stock is currently slipping and we might need a contingency should Detroit draft Smith and if there isn't a 2nd OT rated in the top 5. Beanie might make sense at that point. That said, we should be able to get a productive back at the top of 2 or 3 if we get Smith in 1. We do need a RB though; as well as a FB in the 4-6 range. |

chris wells would be great but we need a line so i say get a runningback might come later.are pass rush is awful so michael johnson could be intriguing as well,we need to find a center as well.3rd rd could be a possibility

Because our RB's are average at best?
If we don't bring in one, regardless of how our O-line is we still won't have a run game. Benson's a decent RB who shouldn't be our feature guy, and Perry is a joke. I hope we draft at least one. Moore at the latest. We wont' take a first round RB, but between the second and fourth we do need one. We won't get one in FA.

From what I have seen we need one but we don't need to go after one until we get a line that will be able to open holes. I also think we need to keep Benson although he appears lazy at times but one guy that needs to go is PERRY!!!!

Well, if this forum has its way, we won't have a run game for another year. Fun times.
I may be alone in this but I really believe we need a strong balance on offense, and we can't have that with Benson and Perry unless Watson manages to get through a season without injury and takes over.

Yeah what he said. Anyone heard of Timmy Smith? RB for the Redskins in the 80's during the hay day of the "HOGS" well after the "HOGS" left so did Timmy Smith, my point is if you have a "O" line that can make wholes I don't give a good GD who the RB is points will be put on the board. We need "O" line help badly. We all know that these boards are for us to vent and that management may read them but don't pay them much mind but for our sake I hope they are at least thinking the same things we are, 'cause if not stand by for some strerile years in the AFC North for us. |

We do need a RB, but we need OL even more. Benson and Perry aren't the best so we do need to find someone to at least take 10-15 carries.

Fix the O line first. Look at the top running attacks in the league. Do you see any of these guys running behind subpar lines? Didn't think so. Fixing our offensive line has to be our #1 priority going into this off season. It cost us our QB this year and if no improvements are made it will probably do the same next year.

Most ppl that have responded seem to agree with the upgrade the line and we'll upgrade the running game.
Can someone who disagrees please explain how we could justify taking a running back with a high draft pick? Especially with our 1st rounder. Benson was a 4th overall pick 4 1,000 seasons in college. Reggie Bush is another example of a college running back that everyone thought would be great and has never rushed for even 600 yeards in a season. With the amount of $$ we will have to pay our 1st rounder, he CANNOT be a bust and must produce for more than 2-4 years. Lineman are a lot less injury prone.

![]() Anyway, we should draft one because we need talent at RB. We've seen plenty of RB's come in and make a huge difference on their teams. Adrian Peterson, Matt Forte, Felix Jones, Jonathon Stewart, Tim Hightower, and that's just this year. Plus, you're far more likely to find a successful RB on day one than in the later rounds. Yeah I listed Hightower, I know he was a later pick, but I don't care. The odds are not there, and with the talent that's availible early (Beanie, Moreno, Greene, Jennings, Davis, Spiller, Ringer [and that's in order of who I'd like the most]), I don't see why we should pass on one. Once we address Center, we need to take a RB. I'll even take Moore in the fourth, we NEED a running back, I'd just prefer one that could be a feature back.

Tackle trumps Center... I can't believe that.

Re: Can someone please explain to me why we need to draft a running back?
I think he was refering to the 3 lineman that all of us think should stay next year. The line of 3 being Whit, Collins and Williams leaving out the two tackles (since all they do is get tackled) Stacey Williams and Levi Jones

We need a running back because there isn't a back on this team who has the capability of being "the guy"...
Regardless of how the offensive line situation plays out, we will need to upgrade the running back position at one point or another... What do you think we should wait til next year or something? Please tell me you don't think that Benson can carry the load...

So are we scrapping DeDe and Watson? Is it possible that Perry could make progress this offseason? This is his first season back from injury. I'm not saying he will, just a question. What about Kenny Irons? Is his NFL career over or might he be able to compete for a roster spot next year?
Fix the line. Protect Carson. Running back by commitee with who we have.

Tackle only trumps center in round 1 since you can't draft a top 5 center.
