There has been ranting going on about who is a better QB, do injuries effect the out come of a game, would Seattle exact revenge on the Steelers and one that was mentioned earlier and wish he would come back and post again, was how the NFC would dominate this year. Of course he was a Bears fan, so that is easy.
Well................................ 1. It don't matter about who is the better qb. What matters is where the team is in the standings. Steelers 4-1, Bengals 1-3. Is Palmer a better QB? Yes, I'll concede that, but as good as he is, your team is still losing. 2. The Steelers went into the game against one of the better NFC teams without 3 pro bowl players in Hines ward (offense), Casey Hampton (Defense) and Troy Polomalu (Defense). During the game the Steelers also lost Marvel Smith (offense). With all these injuries they still scored 33 TD's and shutdown one of the best offenses the NFC has. Why? It's because the Steelers have depth in their 2nd and 3rd string positions and they have a coaching staff that knows how to motivate and teaches players to not be selfish. Sorry, injuries may slow down a team, but they should not be used as an excuse for losing. 3. Some made the claim this would be a rematch of SB XL and the Seahawks would exact revenge for the loss in 05. That is lame because so many of the players and coaches are gone from that team. This was just another game, there was no revenge factor involved and if there was Seattle failed miserably at exacting anything from this game. 4. NFC going to dominate the AFC this year? I challenge anyone to pick a NFC team to match against the Steelers, Patriots or Colts. There isn't one. Yes I think this game answered a lot of issues, including the one about whether Tomlin was the best choice for HC. The Steelers rebounded beautifully from the loss last week. |

How many Super Bowls has Carson been to? You need to put a cork in that homer mouth of yours.

wait for it... WAIT FOR IT... THE CARDINALS (who play in the NFC). We have a division title, and I think I'll frequent this board even if my Bengals don't win the Super Bowl. YOu see, I will get over the Bengals losses. I don't jump the bandwagon ![]()

And that comparison is awful. Losing Troy and Casey would be the equivalent of the Bengals losing Chad and Rudi. Guess what, we played without Chad, and if we had Henry and TJ, I guarantee we would still perform. I never said you were a bandwagon fan. I said I will not quit posting or watchign because I am NOT a bandwagonner.

Re: Is it Over?
Injuries are an excuse, there are 45 members of a football team that suit up with 8 in reserve. They all get payed good money to step up when they are called upon. Saying your team is losing because you have to resort to backups is equivalent to saying that your scouts and your coaches have no clue. If you can not at least compete with backups then you need to find new backups. Why is it the 2nd string and 3rd string get most of the playing time in preseason? Could it be to see how good they are at competing at a professional level?
In conclusion you are saying your backups are not good enough to compete against other teams, therefore your team has no depth and is NOT a complete team or ready to compete in championship games. |

Seriously. You know how many teams end up losing out because of injuries year in and year out? Injuries play a GARGANTUAN part in the success of a team. To say it has no effect or shouldn't have an effect is not only dumb, it's assinine. Buffalo who has suffered one loss after another had it play into their game thus far. The Seahawks last season barely made the post-season due to big time injuries, most notably to their stud RB. KC struggled out of the gate last year after losing Trent Green, but then came on strong to end the season. Carolina is a Super Bowl caliber team when they're healthy, and are a top 10 draft picking team when not. It's not just one team, it's every team. If you all lost Santonio Holmes, your top 5 LBs on the depth chart, your top 3 RBs on the depth chart and half your O-Line, you'd also complain about injuries. Here's the deal. The NFL is part skill, part will, part mentality, part coaching, part execution, part injuries and part luck. If you don't want to admit injuries have nothing to do with a team winning or losing, then please explain the Steelers 8-8 record last year with essentially the same team but a concussion to your starting QB as well as multiple other injuries?

Of course you are. Answer my question, what would you if your 3-4 D could not be played out because you were actually playing with 2 LBs? Tell me, how would your running game survive if your top 3 RBs were down and your 3 interior linemen were ALL injured. The backups are backups for a reason. Because they aren't good enough to start. When our team is weak enough as it is at LB, our backups are obviously going to be barely good enough to compete at the NFL-level.

I guess what I am trying to say is injuries should not have a bearing on a teams ability to win a game because the backups, who get payed also should be able to step into the game and the coaches should be able to adjust with those backups so that they can continue winning. The Steelers did it today and so did the Colts. |

He's still the leading WR in franchise history, Ali. He's also our #1 guy.
But we were ok because we build around a scheme, as opposed to a few guys. |

That is the first truly valid point I have seen in this thread. Building around a scheme is a much better idea then building around a few players. I almost wish the bengals would go to the west coast style offense. Reggie Kelly seems like a decent tight-end for the west coast system, he has decent hands, he just isn't a down the field thread like carson likes. My fellow bengals fans are so in love with the long ball (as is the rest of cincinnati ex: Adam Dunn), I don't care if Carson never completes a pass over 40 yards as long as this team is winning.
