Not sure I agree with Green Bay at #1, but at least the Bolts are projected as best in the AFC! Baltimore ranked 3rd(!), Pittsburgh ranked 12th, Cincy ranked 23rd, Cleveland ranked 29th.

By the end of the year, perhaps. But Peter King should know better than to put the Bolts that high early in the year. Then again, he wouldn't be Peter King if he demonstrated critical thought.
Unless King knows Norv has been fired.... You know, if SD and DEN could swap schedules the 1st and last quarter of the year you'd have yourself a juggernaut.

The Chargers always seem to be the hot offseason pick as the AFC favorites. They've been on the verge for a few years now. Prehaps this is the year or maybe not.
I am a big believer that history repeats its self and the last time the Chargers and Ravens were the best two teams in the AFC, they were both one and done in the playoffs.

The fact that he has the bengals ranked number 23 just proves he's a ******, so does it matter who he has ranked number 2?

Or it could just mean he doesnt fully trust the Bengals yet. I know I dont. They have been Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde all through out Marvin's tenure.

Yeah, but if he predicted the Bengals to win the Super Bowl this year I guarantee you'd be claiming him as the next Messiah.

We haven't proven enough to be considered a top team, but based on last years performance and how our offseason went, it's just downright disrespectful to say we're the 23rd best team in the NFL, behind teams like Denver, Arizona and Jacksonville. EDIT: Not to mention the guy has the steelers at number 12 despite not having their starting QB for 4 games, and possibly 6 (depending on if another girl accuses Ben of rape from now to October.) Come on now...The guy is either a Steeler Homer or just an idiot.

If they don't mean anything, then just post obvious power rankings. Make the power rankings the reverse of the draft order. No one can criticize that. Just going by the stats. I may as well start a ranking system. Rams and Browns 1 and 2. the Saints 32. It doesn't matter though right? So it'd be okay.

It's a moot point anyway. Our favorite Chargers fan apparently skipped this part of the article: "... I stink at this. In fact, my recommendation if you really want to find out what's going to happen in the NFL this year is to take a bye on this column. Last year, I really distinguished myself. Picked the Bears to make the Super Bowl. Picked the Saints 24th in the league, which was a point of some contention all season, right up to the moment 30 minutes after the Saints won the Super Bowl and Sean Payton walked up to his podium to meet the press after the game, saw me, and said: "Not bad for number 24.'' Some of his other picks are pretty out there. Miami may contend for a WC spot, but #6 is waaaaaayyyy to high for them. I don't see how anybody can put them ahead of the Pats, who he has at #14. Also, how in the world does he have Carolina at #8 after they lost their best player in Julius Peppers and were mediocre last year? Seattle at #11 is a pretty big stretch, too. |

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mul...ontent.12.html Please the 12th pick for greatest quarterback ever "Terry Bradshaw".Come on really a guy who barely surpassed a 50 percent pass completion and one season of 62 percent pass completion only because he played one game. And this little gem from his current masterpiece of WTF are you thinking. 24. Detroit. If the Lions were in the NFC West, they might win it this year. They're making significant progress -- assuming Ndamukong Suh is the genuine item and Kyle Vanden Bosch has something left. 25. Chicago. The Mike Martz-Jay Cutler marriage could work, or it could explode. The defense will be solid, assuming Julius Peppers comes to play, but he can't solve everything on a unit that allowed 375 points last year. Detroit will always be pwned sauced as long as they have that owner shooting them in the foot by terrible trades. P.s I see the Jets being major strong especially after acquiring a former Steeler Girl friend beater Santonio Holmes. Last edited by GreenHornet; 05-18-2010 at 12:40 AM. |

King IS an idiot. Good writer, but he doesn't know bunk about football that isn't spoonfed to him by a network of contacts that comes with the position. Same can be said for a number of writers and analysts, but a lot of former players/coaches do know what they are talking about, they just don't appear to put much effort into actually watching the teams and doing their homework.
To be fair, CIN did lose 4 of its last 5 with a number of wins that could have easily gone the other way. You can say that for a lot of teams, but that's what makes it tough to be consistently good in this league.

Holmes will be a loss, but he's not the #1 wide receiver. Ward has been and always will be considered the #1. The Steelers wouldn't be able to keep Holmes after this season anyways so they got rid of him, and with his past troubles it would be just a matter of time before he got in trouble again. I think getting Randle El back will be a good start. He might not have done well for the Redskins, but he did pretty good for the Steelers.

"]King IS an idiot. Good writer, but he doesn't know bunk about football" For not knowing "bunk" about football he sure makes a lot of money talking about it. When a sports talking head makes a unflattering remark about one's team, they are fools and no nothing about football. Now that is funny. Maybe you're in the wrong profession |

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He really doesn't. It's a wonder, how people actually make a living.
As far as the Bengals are concerned, they won the AFC North without a full arsenal of people who could catch the ball. All defenses had to do was put 2 on Chad. So if they did that without Chase, Jermaine, Antonio, Shipley, a healthy A. Smith, Kelly, and a healthy Carson with two healthy hands... ... what the heck do you think is going to happen THIS season? Not to mention the defense is better than last year, .. on paper. ... and they finished the season ranked 4th.

My sentiments exactly. This is the NFL people, these things don't mean squat.
Oh, and for those saying "I don't see how they have the Bengals ranked lower than the Steelers after they wept them, blah blah..." Guess what, the Steelers swept the Bengals the year before that, and as all the Bengals fans here like to point out, history doesn't mean anything. Anything can happen, that's what makes the NFL interesting. Each season is a clean slate, a fresh start. |

Knowledge of football is not a criteria to be an analyst or writer. The only criteria is the ability to entertain.
Peter King writes some entertaining articles. None of his own observations are particularly enlightening, that is unless you want to know where to get a good pastrami in NY at 7AM.
