Yesterday, on the drive when Benson scored his second TD, the Bengals had 2nd & 10 from the Saints 29. Carson appeared to complete a pass to Chad for a first down on the left sideline. The replay on TV clearly showed that it was an incomplete pass. I have to imagine that the Bengals staff saw that too. However, it was ruled intially as a complete pass. Why doesn't the team have a plan in place for instances such as this? Go no huddle, get up on the line, snap the ball quickly and run a play, do something before the Saints have enough time to review it multiple times and make a decision about whether or not it is worth challenging. Instead, the Bengals huddle up like usual, take their time lining up, Carson goes through his checks as normal, giving New Orleans as much time as they need to challenge. I know it's all moot somewhat because the Bengals still got a TD on the drive but still... When they happen to catch a break, they need to take advantage of it.

For the same reason that we often can't get plays sent in on time and have to burn a timeout early in games. For the same reason when the other team jumps offside we just settle for 5 yards instead of taking a shot downfield. We don't properly evaluate players talent or brainpower, and seldom improve them. So my guess is coaching.

Sometimes when you act guilty, it will cause the other team to throw the flag anyway. Rush to the line and try to hurry up would have just seemed obvious. I agree tho, I was hoping they would run a quick play. Someone went in motion and everything....

Why improvise when the same thing you always do works? No need to reinvent the wheel.
At times this season I've wondered if they're trying to emulate the 49ers team (think it was them anyway) who used to have their first half planned out. No matter what happened, they stuck to the script. It seems like that's what we're trying to do.
