Default Higher up management

Anyone have a hard time with higher up management at your job? I think they let the power go to their head. You say hi to them and they are unfriendly. They make the most ridiculous rules I have ever heard of. I like them as long as they stay out of my face, thats all. What I have a hard time with is favoritism. Joe Shmo can do this but another employee if they do the same thing they get fired. Thoughts?

In reality, people do have favorite employees. It is a natural outcome. Who would you like more, the person who gets it down or the person who *****es and moans. You just should not treat them differently.

The most important things your management team does:

1. Keep you safe
2. Pay you correctly
3. Equitable treatment

Check with other people you trust. If they agree about the behavior, have the courage to confront it.

I had to work with a VP of HR who always gave bad directives. We had constant confrontations for about a year. I made sure that my issues were more than just opinions before I would take a shot at her. One of us got fired. It was not me.

So you are mad that higher ups don't say "hi" to you, but you are also mad that they play favorites? Sounds more like you are upset that you are not a favorite IMO.

There are a lot of definitions of "fair". If they are paying you what they agreed to pay you and giving you the benefits they promised for the job that you do, then they probably are being fair (at least as far as legally defined). If you continually worry about what is fair under your own definition, it can degrade your attitude and your performance.
