Default Rivers to Giants for 5th-rounder

edit: If this happens I hope we extend Howard.

What is Rivers worth? a 4th round pick maybe? Healthy, he isn't nearly as bad as people sometimes act like he is.

IMO, Lawson's return all but sealed Rivers' fate here. So, if you can get anything for him (probably a 4th or 5th round pick) instead of cutting him that is a bonus.

He is solid and worth a third round pick. Unfortunately, they pick last in every round (barring comps). I would be ecstatic if we bundled a pick with him and got their second round pick.

A 3rd would be nice. even if they pick last which is a good point. Maybe Mikes stubborness will get us a good deal. Getting anything for him if we are going to cut him will be nice however.

bengals Re: Sit Tight. Rivers to the Giants in the works

the topic seems to be picking up steam, at least in the NYC metro area...provided another news link...but there is no mention of what Giants intend to offer in return? Can't imagine who'd they realistically trade...maybe Hixon, but he's more injury prone than Rivers...gotta hope it's a draft pick, maybe 3rd or 4th?

Not going to happen. I can see a fourth or fifth.

DeMeco Ryans was traded for a fourth rounder. I'm expecting us to get less in return if we trade Rivers.

Giants board is saying Osi for Rivers and Cincy's number 1. I would not be happy if this was the case.

could be Rivers and Cincy's 1st for
andrew_nyg : 8:48 am
Osi and the Giants 5th.

Osi has a higher cap number than Rivers, so it improves the Giants draft and cap position.

Cincy gets an excellent pass rusher, and they already have plenty of picks and cap space.

Makes sense for both sides.

Osi would be a nice (not for our number 1), but where would he fit. Surely he would want to start.

The only way I'd take Osi is if he's agreed to an extension. He's a free agent after this season.

I cannot even imagine a number one straight up for Osi, maybe a 3.

This. No way we give up a first, that's just a Giants fan's wishful thinking...

But if we do for some dumb*** reason give up a first, I will be livid

I say we get a 6th rd this year and a 7th rd next year. I don't think Rivers has much value. Injury prone and even when healthy he wasn't much of a playmaker

For this it makes more sense to keep him as a back up. If we got a 5th for Ocho we can get a 5th for Rivers to a team like the Giants who really need a LB.

If it is player for player Ramses Barden may make the most sense. Drafted in 2009, injury prone and struggles to make an impact in the Giants receiving corps.

That would be a wretched deal for the Bengals. Here are a few possibilities
Draft picks: 3rd rd # 94, or 4th rd: 127
I can see us offering a 5 and Rivers for their 3rd or simply taking their 4th straight up.

Players:
Marvin Austin: Hurt all rookie year. Behind 3 very solid and young DT. Former 2nd round pick
Antrel Rolle: Aging vet (29) in a DB full of young up and comers.
Greg Jones: 6th round pick, outstanding athlete. Hurt all rookie season.
Chris Horton: 4th year player. Had modest 2008 not much since.

Of these I would rally love to see us float Rivers, and a 5th for Austin. He seems too highly paid for the Giants to keep amidst that DT rotation. Or take their 3rd and Greg Jones.

All of that happened on three consecutive possession, a 10-minute fusillade of fail that turned a one-possession game into a blowout loss...
