""We will continue to get him in shape. He's a better conditioned athlete now than he was at the combine and at ASU in March . If he continues to go down that path, he seems bright enough to learn. He seems willing to want change this image people have of him."" http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Back-to-basics/b313bd62-48a2-4222-a0aa-f2782cc6f578 Last edited by Bengals_Moderator; 05-14-2012 at 11:39 AM. |

Saying it and doing it are 2 different things.

May be it is just the homer in me coming out, but if this guy takes Marvin's guidance and commits himself to being the best he can, we may have a beast on our hands. The guys instincts seem off the charts, he can hit hard enough to make people think twice about coming over the middle and in the tape I have watched on him, he looks pretty good in coverage. Rey better step up or he might get Wally Pipp-ed.

Absolute steal and, from everything that I've seen, he's been humbled because he had first round talent before he bombed at the combine and his pro day, so, if we can get him back motivated (he seems to be) and can get him to get all the fundamentals down (Marvin coached one of the best backing cores in history, so I think he can help out if need-be), then we could be looking at one of the highest steals in defensive draft history (he went undrafted, but you get my drift).

Of course you expressed the whole theme of the article and didn't just cherry pick.

If you asked me who the hardest hitting player in this draft was, I would have had to consider him. They say he is a lot faster then his 40 yard dash time. The fact that he wasn't in shape for the combine, has to be a red flag. He has a lot to work on, but if he can stay committed, he has a lot of potential and could develop.

I hope he can get in shape (and stay in shape) and can contribute this year. I think if nothing else he could be pretty good on special teams. ESPN was talking about Bill Romanowski today and it got me hoping he could be our own version of him. I think if he could play like him and with the same attitude then that along our new players that could help take our already good defense to another level.
Does anyone know how good he is at rushing the passer ?

Let's say the Burfict is as good as we think (hope) he could be, what do we do with Rey? Does he go back to SAM? Is he a back-up? Would we trade him? Or do you think they might train Burfict to play on the outside?
I still have hope that Rey can step up and be that force in the middle he showed for brief moments last year, and going into this year I was pretty sure he was going to be better this year than last year, but IF Burfict steps up is Rey good enough to unseat Lawson?

These where Marvin's thoughts not the words of VON"DON'T"TAZE ME BURFICT! I can n ot wait to watch him play. I wish more fans would just be fans. Its cool to be a put up or shut up type of fan but let the kid start out with a clean slate. Relax he is young and could be a very good player.

I sure hope Vontaze really plays because I really got tired of waiting for Chase Coffman to become a beast also!

I hope he picks things up quickly. He certainly has some skill and talent. Translating it to the pro game is an uphill battle and as Marvin says he's low risk. If he doesn't work out we're out nothing.

I'm a beast. I'm just now figuring out how to use the cat box. Soon I begin toilet training...according to my ex anyway.

People who think Burfict is going to be a beast are setting themselves up for disappointment.

If the coaches can get him to completely focus on the game, there is no reason to think that he couldn't be a great player. We'll just have to see if the coaches can pull this one off...

Don't know how an undrafted FA could ever be a bust.
