In '10 we set a team record in pass attempts, yet finished DEAD LAST in the league in rushing yards per carry. A good passing game does nothing to improve your running game when you can't run block.
The pass game in 10 wasn't any good though. A bunch of attempts cuz we were always losing doesn't mean the pass game was scaring anyone.

A good pass attack definitely opens up the run. How much so certainly depends on your OL and RBs but it definitely helps.

Not only do we not have Frank Gore, but we do not have the best defense in the NFL which in my opinion the 49ers had last season. They also play in a wack division and had a very easy schedule. Everything fell into place for them last year.......and they still came up short.

OFFENSE: Superbowl contenders if the running game is alot better than expected, I mean like either BJGE goes for 1500 and BScott goes for 700, or 1000 each.

Defense: The secondary plays out of their minds and everyone steps up and plays to their potential.

But the point is that we threw the ball more often than any Bengal team in history. Our passing game may not have been that good, but the defense was definitely keying on the pass game because that is all we did.

If your running game stinks you have to fix the problems with your running game. A better pass offense won't help it is like the old argument that if your offense controls the ball longer it makes your defeense better. that is not true either. If your defens stinks it stinks no matter how goodd your offense is.

If the O-line is greatly improved. Which it should be. If Dalton stays healthy and someone fills the #2 wr spot adequately. If the Law Firm can carry his weight. If our DB's can play to the level of the D-line.

Believe all these things are possible and that we do have a shot.
Think we have the right coaching staff in place already to aid in these steps.

I agree... You give virtually any NFL QB time to throw and he will hit the target. You give virtually any NFL RB holes to run through and he will. When the offense holds the ball for the majority of the game you typically score points and have a rested defense which leads to victories.

I think it depends on how clever your OC is.

A team has to be excellent in one facet or another to in order to execute it at will, in spite of defenses geared to stop it.

However, a good OC will find ways to gash a defense even with the weak part of their offense if the strong part is indeed worth respecting.

No doubt, at least one of the two facets being strong makes it easier for a clever OC to achieve that.
